This novel begins with the disappearance of two children by fictional Lullingdale Water, in the Lake District. There is a history, namely the drowning of six women, accused of witchcraft in the 1660’s, it is near a village which is beautiful on the surface but everything is more complicated beneath.DI Sam Taylor and DC Zoe Barnes come over from Manchester, to investigate. The sense of foreboding increases and tension builds….(will I ever think of the Lake District in the same way, ever again???)
