Anna is detached, she struggles, she is in a steamed up glass bubble. How can she liberate herself, a foreigner in Switzerland, her domestic ennui is draining her – will casual sex be the answer? It is a book full of angst, the prose is superb, the European feel is really there. It is Switzerland, inhospitable at times, yet also a reassuring cloak of middle class affluence that allow her a therapist and to ride the trains between where she lives and the centre of Zurich and beyond… Mme Bovary, Anna Karenina, Anna Benz, this is a winner for 2015.
