Lead Review
- Book: The Case of the Vanishing Blonde
- Location: United States (USA)
- Author: Mark Bowden
6 stories featuring true crime reporting, accounts that have previously been published elsewhere. Definitely a book for those interested in true crime and incisive writing.
From the style it is clear that the author is a journalist because he has a snappy style, with attention to detail. The first story is an unpalatable story of ‘frat’ behaviour, at a time when the woman’s voice was diminished – and that not so long ago. It is a report of events as gleaned from sources rather than from the horse’s mouth, as it were.
The stories featuring PI Brennan are perhaps the most engaging. He is a determined and phlegmatic investigator who swims against the stream and gets to the bottom of the cases he is investigating.
The locations are clearly American, but not really sufficiently defined for anyone seeking armchair travel to the States.
