This novel is a poignant and well told story of illicit encounters in China that still hold sway on characters who have long since moved to Chinatown, New York.  In their new environment they face all kinds of difficulties as they try to establish themselves among kindred souls, within the immigrant community. The writing is incredibly nuanced and competent, evocative of the people and times.

On occasion the linear development wasn’t altogether clear to me, but I think you will pick up this novel for the unusual subject and the atmospheric storytelling.
