Michael Stanley comprises 2 people writing together, Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip and it is a while since they have produced a book (I think?).

This is no.6 in the series and this novel can be read as a standalone.

“When the body of a Bushman is discovered near the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the death is written off as an accident. But all is not as it seems. An autopsy reveals that, although he’s clearly very old, his internal organs are puzzlingly young. What’s more, an old bullet is lodged in one of his muscles—but there is no entry wound…” What a sizzling start to a novel! Also, love a good map as an opener!

Detective Kubu teams up with Samantha Khama once again, when the body is stolen from the morgue, and soon a couple of suspects are in the frame. But there is a much bigger picture and the body’s disappearance is just the tip of the iceberg. The story weaves this way and that, as the investigations stumble upon international criminal rings, intent on plundering and exploiting with ruthless intent.

This novel is great for the gritty feel of the country, braced for criminal activity, with the vast plains as a backdrop and a well-drawn human element. They have – as a they acknowledge at the back of the book – carried a good deal of research to give the novel an authentic feel.
