Cleo is a successful novelist and now she is screen writing, adapting her books for TV. She is clearly a principled woman because she knows what she wants and isn’t prepared to compromise.
She has also announced to her husband Wallace that she wants to leave the marriage and that they should co-habit whilst she finds alternative accommodation. It becomes apparent that the reason for her separation is rather opaque and it is not a simple matter of falling out of love.
In the mid 1990s, Cleo was at University in Leeds and she and Trina are good friends. Heath, a young man inveigles himself into their tiny clique, announcing that he has fallen for Cleo from afar. Tiny behaviour indicators, little mannerisms, certain observations all begin to indicate that she needs to be vigilant around him going forward. As Trina once observed, he has a certain intensity about him.
We continue to find out more about her life in the present and then as she moves from Leeds to London, we gain some inkling of why she feels she has to act as she does.
Then, people start to get injured around her and a person is murdered.
The author is a crisp writer and storyteller and is well versed in ratcheting up the tension and anticipation. A well rounded story.
Location isn’t particularly well defined.
