This is no 3 in the Rabbit Factor Trilogy (preceded by The Rabbit Factor and The Moose Paradox) and once again we meet Henri Koskinen, who has inherited an adventure park from his errant brother, plus the concomitant debts, serviced by some hard-boiled gangsters. In this novel he has been building up a relationship with Laura Helanto (his “train” and “meteorite”), a painter and once again his life is about to take a different turn. He has moved in with her and her daughter, Tuuli and will be getting used to being part of a blended family. He is very much up for the challenge.

On the work front, the “YouMeFun” Park has a competitor, Somersault City, situated in Espoo (just west of Helsinki) which is so non-compliant that the International Association of Adventure Parks declined their membership –  that puts the park firmly in the dodgy category. They are using nefarious means to pull in their paying clientele, luring visitors away from Henri’s park, by offering free entry, free sausages and celebrity appearances. That’s simply not cricket, as one might say in England. But back to Helsinki….

Once a number cruncher, always a number cruncher and Henri, in his previous work life was an insurance mathematician, and he knows that he can always rely on mathematics, order and logic. Even at Tuuli’s school, his talents are recognised and the fathers’ group ropes him into assess the viability of a school trip to France. So many avenues begin to open for him!

Then a murder occurs (carried out by means of a giant steel ice-cream cone). Henri realises that he may well be in the frame for it unless he takes decisive action. He will have to take matters into his own hands…

This has been an entertaining and quirky series, with loads of wry humour that will elicit a chuckle, both delightfully entertaining and engaging.
