Evie is just completing her first term at University and her mother is driving from their home in Reading to North London, where Evie is living. But Lauren arrives at her daughter’s accommodation and there is no sign of her. In fact it seems she hasn’t actively been attending college for the last few weeks. She has just vanished off the face of the earth.
She naturally approaches the authorities and there are some clues, perhaps, in the videos taken on her last day of attendance.
We know from Evie herself that she has been seeing a man and has had some luxury outings, unbeknownst to her family. So we, as the reader, understand that an older man has seemingly taken her under his wing and seduced her away from the world she knows.
Lucas is Evie’s young brother, who fortunately is fairly savvy when it comes to tech, and mum Lauren and son Lucas set off in hot pursuit of Evie’s last known footsteps. The children’s dad has been off the scene since they were small, so Lauren has to handle this latest drama on her own (with some significant help from Lucas).
This is a quick read, a fast paced and engaging thriller.
