The Guernsey Girls Go To War by Mary Wood
SPOTLIGHT REVIEW
This is no. 2 in the series and picks up with Olivia and Annie in the early days of WW2. Olivia’s husband is an anglicised German national, who has returned to Germany (unwillingly, it has to be said) to support Hitler, but he is acting as a double agent and fees back information during his phone calls to his wife, who has remained with their young son on Guernsey.
Annie, who once worked for Olivia’s family, is based in London where she, too, is helping with the war effort. The two women’s friendship remains firm in the face of the escalating war.
The Germans arrive on the island, the Blitz is under way. There is heartbreak, poignancy and drama to keep the reader involved.
The Guernsey Girls find Peace is the third story in the trilogy coming out later 2024. This can be read as a standalone but reading The Guernsey Girls first might offer a richer experience.
