Long but engaging

  • Book: Shantaram
  • Location: Mumbai (Bombay)
  • Author: Gregory David Roberts

Review Author: Nessie

No doubt that the person most impressed by this reportedly semi-autobiographical work is the author himself. It is, admittedly pretty engaging, though. Many of the other characters are as intriguing as the author is self-involved. Not his lovely Carla, though. Her appeal is difficult to understand. For someone so smitten with her, you’d think he’d be able to give his reader a glimpse of her appeal. The setting is the real star of the novel, of course. The rhythm and madness of Mumbai is fully evident throughout.
