From a slightly slow beginning, I found myself hooked – the author puts life into her characters. Oh my goodness, to have to obey so many rigorous laws and customs. It is quite astounding in this day and age that so much store is still set by history and tradition, they are at the core of this book. The goal is the marriage, two innocents – and the author does a really good job of conveying their utter innocence when it comes to the more intimate sphere of a marriage. Splendid writing, and I felt I wanted to wish Chani (and the Rebetzin!) good luck in their new lives.
