Perfect holiday romance!
- Book: Escape to the Swiss Chalet
- Location: Verbier
- Author: Carrie Walker
Thank you, TripFiction, for introducing me to a new author!
Escape to the Swiss Chalet is a lovely novel, perfect to read during the winter with some hot chocolate…or maybe a glass of wine. You will be tempted to try the many drinks, main dishes and desserts that Carrie Walker so aptly describes.
The story moves along fast and without glitches, starting with a very hopeful Holly counting the days until her wedding. After a painful and mostly unexpected breakup, she moves from London to the ski town of Verbier, in the Swiss Alps. Quite a change for someone who couldn’t stand feeling cold! That’s how she describes herself: “Maybe it was being a winter baby; I came into the world snuggled in a blanket and zipped into a onesie and not much has changed in twenty-seven years. Soft, warm and cosy was how I liked it.”
Holly’s transformation into a ski bunny of sorts is funny and heartwarming. And I could certainly identify with her first attempts at skiing and snowboarding. As for the romance part…there are two handsome men around, but you may find yourself asking Holly to stay away from one of them, no matter how good looking!
Walker’s descriptions of Verbier are also superb…you will feel like you are there, either in the middle of a fun après-ski party or inside Rachael’s good smelling pâttisserie…or making your way down the piste while the mountain is lit only by torches. I also loved the use of French throughout the story, enough to give it the right flavor without ruining understanding.
As it happens with all good books, I was a little sad when it ended. But thankfully, Escape to the Tuscan Vineyard is ready for preorder. Can’t wait to continue reading about Holly’s adventures!
Please wait...
