The story breezes through the Finn family setting up home on Phuket. The island idyll is beautifully captured but the fragile sense of beauty is wafer thin and the hard lives and events permeate the book. Whether the plight of the gibbon, the women, or the simple lives and their hardship, this book polarizes the wonderful island idyll with the grim underbelly of shattered lives. A fabulous feeling of being there with the characters!
