What a shame! Young had a good idea, but his poor writing lets him down, as does his lack of research. The problems start with the premise itself: Kripo officers weren’t allowed anywhere near the Berlin Wall or the inner-German border, all investigation there was carried out by the MfS (Stasi) which jealously defended its monopoly in this area.
Young has obviously done quite a bit of research, but it’s a shame he didn’t get someone who knows this field to have a look, and editor would have helped the book too.
