I loved the opening style of writing, really gifted and amusing observations. The story progresses and it has quite some pathos as it builds to the pivotal event – England and some of the ways the British are and do things is superbly captured. I thought this was an excellent read, if I had any quibbles I thought Lawrence was too wimpy and Sarah wouldn’t have put up with him and not sure that Sarah would have taken Charlie with her at the end. Nevertheless absolutely gripping and well written!!! I think if you liked “The Help” you might like this book.
