The Rome you never see in the brochure!
- Book: Any Human Face
- Location: Rome
- Author: Charles Lambert
As a frequent visitor to Rome, I am sometimes aware of a dark, slightly sinister undercurrent – an atmosphere which whispers malevolence and intrigue. As a tourist, I am unlikely to be drawn in to the seamier aspects of the city but I love the fact that Charles Lambert has allowed me to be a voyeur in this captivating and disturbing story. With themes of loneliness, murder, compassion, corruption, eccentricity and love, Any Human Face gives us an insight into something other than the picture postcard Eternal City. The photographs it exposes are much more interesting – provocative and disturbing – and now that I have seen them, I feel uneasy and slightly culpable. An excellent, simmering and atmospheric read!
