Novel set in the fictional village of Tilldale, NORTHUMBERLAND

“Northumberland’s wildly rugged beauty had drawn her back…” Fictional Tilldale is within striking distance of Alnwick.

Cath lived quite happily with Trevor and their son Adam in Leeds but her unanticipated divorce has snookered the comfy vision of retirement. She has nevertheless found the wherewithal to up sticks and move to Northumberland, where the family had spent enjoyable holidays and where she still has fond memories of Summers as a carefree child. And now she is back in this beautiful part of the world, forging a future for herself.

Embarking on a whole new life is not easy. She meets the couple running the village shop and is delighted to discover they all hit it off, and before she knows it, she is hosting the inaugural supper club in her garden, in the newly renovated shed erected by her predecessor, Reggie.

There are a few up and downs, including a prang in a car park (which has consequences); her ex husband turns up on her doorstep and a good friend cannot help but criticise her new circumstances through the lens of a suburban perspective. Adam, her teenage son, descends on her from his recent trip to South East Asia, adding carnage to her household, but throughout she just about manages to hold her nerve. Soon things are looking an awful lot better but then her past soon catches up with her…

Just maybe, though, she has made the best decision of her life, as she begins to find her feet in the wilds of Northumberland.

A heartwarming and quick read that will whisk you from the Cheviots to Alnwick and beyond.

(PS. Northumberland County Council – if you are reading this, any chance of a clean up of the Northumberland sign?)
