  • Book: Street without a Name: Childhood and Other Misadventures in Bulgaria
  • Location: Bulgaria
  • Author: Kapka Kassabova

This book is a wonderful collection of memoirs about growing up in Socialist Bulgaria. The author’s evocative and moving tales transport the reader back to a time which will be a revelation to today’s youth – a time before freedom of speech, movement and economic hardship. As a frequent visitor to the country, I found the book gave an invaluable insight into its history and the lives of ordinary people struggling to survive in a strange, oppressive, and often corrupt, regime.
