Set on the big island of Hawaii, this book paints a vivid picture of life there in the 1940s. There is a mystery, a child narrator that you totally believe in, women that I wanted to sit on the lanai and have a glass of wine with and and and. This is one of those books that pops new gifts out with every page, yet never overwhelms. I loved it so much that I read it on one night.
And the lion? Yes the soldiers really did have a lion. You will love the lion.
