Truth is stranger than fiction…
- Book: Daughters of Spain
- Location: Spain
- Author: Joan Fallon
This book brings forward stories of otherwise lost voices of women during the time of Franco’s Spain.
I read this to learn about Malaga before my first visit and now I will go back and read it again. These voices are being silenced by time, so it is good that this author captured a few in this book.
This was my first exploration of the term “oral history” and I believe we need more stories like this to be recorded. These voices are so powerful in reflection, the the uncluttered and uncut truth. When these women lived there stories… nobody was asking… when Franco was gone… almost nobody was telling… it’s a rare peek into lives of these women who lived in unimaginable circumstances for women today.
A very worthwhile read.
