What a find

I found this book secondhand, after a friend had recommended it. I wished I had had it on my first two trips to Venice. It really takes you down to another level, with a sense of the people in the past who have walked the exact same routes. For example, the books takes you to where Canaletto painted some of his scenes, or you can explore some obscure alleyway with Byzantine remains and, it gently informs you without being overly scholarly. You can take what you want from this guide and it genuinely deserves to be up there among the best.
