Wintery Wales

  • Book: Gold
  • Location: Manchester, World
  • Author: Chris Cleave

As with all Dan Rhodes’ novels, this is a charming and quirky read. It is a humorous and moving portrait of a Welsh coastal village in winter – a love story, and the story of an outsider who finds herself becoming involved in the life of the village. The rhythms of village life in the off-season saturate the story, and the relationships that the protagonist, Miyuki Woodward, forges unexpectedly with the regulars at her local pub have a hidden depth. This is another wonderful story from Dan Rhodes that makes those long, cold winter nights more bearable.
