GIVEAWAY: 3 copies of The Girl With the Scarlet Ribbon – set in North East England
6th December 2020
We are delighted to be able to offer 3 copies of The Girl With the Scarlet Ribbon by Glenda Young, set in North East England (Ryhope, Scarborough and Sunderland). UK entries only.
When a newborn baby girl is found abandoned with nothing but a scarlet ribbon tied to her basket, Ada Davidson, housekeeper of the wealthy McNally family’s home, the Uplands, takes her into her care. Sworn to secrecy about the baby’s true identity, Ada names her Jess and brings her up as her own, giving Jess no reason to question where she came from.
But when Ada passes away, grief-stricken Jess, now sixteen, is banished from the place she’s always called home. With the scarlet ribbon the only connection to her past, will Jess ever find out where she really belongs? And will she uncover the truth about the ruthless McNallys?

Anywhere in Cornwall, perhaps Falmouth
Limekilns, Fife, Scotland
When I was child in the 1950s I travelled from Lincolnshire up to a mining village in Northumberland where my Mum was born for a holiday. The highlight of each trip was a visit to the seaside at Newbiggin. Oh how I’d love to go back and rekindle those memories!
I’d like to visit Whitby.
falmouth in cornwall
Portleven in Cornwall
I love the beaches around the Gower peninsular, especially Rhossili
I’d love to go to Hastings
I love Scarborough (Scarbados as we call it) and nearby Filey. Fish & chips on the windswept beach – just watch out for the seagulls.
I love the Cornish coastline best, if I had to choose a single location. No one place in particular, as if we base ourselves in Newquay for the week, we can visit just about every little nook and cranny in that time!
However, from where we live on the Somerset / Wiltshire border, the coast is never very far away, so in reality we have lots of favourite haunts!
I love Abbotsbury, near to Chesil Beach in Dorset – the swannery there is stunning, as are the tropical gardens. We had a lovely break there last year and I’d love to go back once we can start planning trips again.
Has to be Craster in Northumberland. Lovely harbour. Jolly Fisherman pub. Dunstanbrough castle in distance.
I love the Isle Of Wight and can’t wait to hopefully go back next year
I would most like to visit Cornwall
Whitby my favourite place in UK.
I have fond memories of Whitby when our children were young. Would love to revisit.
Craster Northumberland. Until a few years ago we used to stay in Craster, famous for its kippers, for a week at new year. Because of other commitments we’ve not been the last three year. It is a historic village eight miles from Alnwick castle, 3/4 to Dunstanburgh castle, six miles from Bamburgh castle all on the stunning coastline with gorgeous beaches, and a microbrewery in low Newton.

Me too!
We are only 45 minutes away Tina but it’s a different world with a micro climate
We can second that being only a few miles south!!
Devon, it looks so beautiful and I have never been!
I would love to return to St Agnes, Cornwall as it feels like my home from home!
My autistic brother has been in care there since the year 2000 & I have visited twice a year ever since!
It has such a sense of community &, unlike many Cornish seaside places, the life does not die down in winter!

One of my most favourite places is TENBY, a harbour town in southwest Wales.
It has to be Cornwall,as I’ve heard so much about it,but I’ve never been there. Everybody speaks so highly of the many small picturesque villages which sound idyllic.
I’ve always wanted to go to Whitby 🙂
