Half The World Away by Cath Staincliffe describes every parent’s worst nightmare. Jo’s daughter, Lori, suddenly stops all social media communication when staying in China. Jo and Lori’s father, Tom, set off to Chengdu (where she was last heard of) to search for her. Bureaucracy grinds slowly, and they feel very much on their own in what is clearly a ‘missing person’ case. Cath describes Chengdu brilliantly (her son lives there) and along with a gripping story, shares all sorts of interesting facts and observations. A trip to Shanghai would be a dream come true
I have never been but it would have to be a choice between Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong.
I would love to visit Hangzhou and soak up the culture
I’d like to see The Forbidden City and The Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
I would LOVE to visit Jiuzhaigou National Park, it is literally breathtaking!
I’d like to visit the Jiuzhaigou Valley in the autumn. All the trees changing colour against the super blue water looks amazing!
Shanghai
I would love to go to Hangzou and visit West Lake. West Lake was selected as one of the “12 superb sunset spots around the world” by CNN. I imagine it is like looking at one of those willow pattern plates!
I would love to see The Great Wall of China and Shanghai. Visiting the panda sanctuary would be amazing.
I would love to see the Great Wall of China! And It’ be great if I get to explore cities that I’ve read about or seen in movies (Beijing and Shanghai for example).

Shanghai definitely, the Great Wall and anywhere along the Yanghtze River – the River has dominated so many books I’ve read set in China and it seems to be a character all its’ own.

SHANGHAI I think for me.
It’s not 1 city, but I would visit The 5 great mountains, The mountain huge Buddha is not to miss when in China.
I’d love to visit Inner Mongolia, to photograph its grasslands, mountains, stone forests and the Gobi Desert, to visit historic monuments such as the Genghis Khan mausoleum and to meet some of its diverse population, discover more about their cultures and, I hope, learn a few words of some of their languages.
I would like to visit Hangzhou
I’d love to visit Guilin in the south. The scenery there looks wonderful.

One of my favourite books is J G Ballard’s The Crystal World so when I saw pictures of Luya mountain, in Shanxi province, I knew I had to see it! From the pictures I have seen, in winter the lower slopes of the mountain appear to be covered with crystal-like vegetation. You can imagine, as Ballard did, that the earth is slowly petrifying. Frightening but thrilling!
I’d love to explore the garden of Kenroku-en in Kanazawa, with my camera.
I would love to visit atmospheric Shanghai and as a contrast to the city, glide the Li river into the magical countryside.
I’m fascinated by history so I’d like to be greedy and visit the terracotta army in Lington as well as visit the Great Wall, probably the section at Jinshanling, although any part would be amazing
