One Last Greek Summer by Mandy Baggot, novel set on CORFU
#fromourbookshelves
You can really tell that the author is in love with Corfu, often the chosen setting for her novels. It is full of sunshine and all things Greek and with a bit of romance in the air, it makes for a great beach read. Anyone who is familiar with the island will be able to connect with the depictions in the novel.
As the novel opens, Beth is celebrating her divorce, in her office, which is also her ex-husband’s office. Well, it’s his company. What could possibly go wrong?
Suffice it to say, Beth doesn’t need too much persuading to head to Corfu and bowls up with her friend Heidi. They were on the island several years ago and so there is a sense of reconnection and rekindling and, of course, there is a squeeze in the form of Alex. And, yes, Beth and Alex do happen to come across each other. Is there still a spark that can be kindled?
Heidi ensures there is never a dull moment and exuberantly cajoles Beth to seize the moment. The story is written with humour and insight.
