Head back 4,500 years, to a time when Skara Brae was a modern, living village rather than an ancient monument. Meet village priest Jona, fiery fire maker Roben, and Marna, who lives in the village with her widowed mother and elder brother Thork. When fisherman Joel drowns unexpectedly in calm seas tongues begin to wag, but it is only later, after further violent deaths, that it becomes clear a murderer is at work amongst them. Suspicion falls on Marna’s friend Sempal, and she must act quickly to save him. As Jona’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic, traders from overseas stir up discontent, and tensions arise with the priests of the Ness, it falls to Marna and Sempal to discover the truth. Follow Marna as she travels from Skara Brae to Brodgar, the Ness, Stenness and Barnhouse on the way to the great tomb of Maeshowe.
