This book is a journey to a place that will be unfamiliar to many people but that you feel you know a lot better after reading. Told across a broad historical timeframe with a cast of fascinating characters, the reader remains engrossed in the three timelines which come together at the end in a genuinely satisfying and inevitable way. It’s a big book but don’t let that put you off. The writing is endlessly vivid and varied, whether describing spectacular action or the detail of some delicious local recipe. Istria Gold is entertaining, gripping and a revelation.
