From award-winning filmmaker and producer Mike Downey comes an ambitious and atmospheric historical thriller debut, the first in a trilogy starring Marco Mihailić. Set on Croatia’s Istrian peninsula, ISTRIA GOLD explores the turbulent region’s history, culture, and traditions, bringing it to life in the grand tradition of authors such as Martin Walker and his Bruno Courrèges series.

The novel travels through 3 periods – the Roman – WW2 and 2019 and each focuses on events that are integral to the period and all are linked by the earthy truffle.

AD81 – At 18 Lucia has no equal as a dog handler in the Vespasian amphitheatre and they smell out a wonderful truffle that will drive the covetous Roman Empire wild.

1943 – The Mihailić brothers watch waves of invaders taking over their country. Driven by revenge, the brothers head for the hills to join the Partisans.

2019 (London) – Marc Michailić leaves the Met, he is in fact drummed out of it and heads back home to Istria….
