This story is based on actual events during 1900. Leonie Grant, a twenty one year old orphan dreams of a new start and a career as a photographer in Australia. She travels on board the SS Britannic with her aunt and guardian, Ruth Fox to stay with Ruth’s brother Sebastian on his outback farm. Ruth is burdened by dreadful secrets which will impact on all the characters. On board amongst the army contingent Leonie is drawn towards Clyde Ferguson, an older officer who suffers mental trauma after fighting in the South African war. She is attracted to a fellow civilian passenger, Adam Mallory, a mischievous young newspaper reporter. Mysteries deepen as Ruth’s attitude towards these men, at first friendly becomes increasingly disturbed. Leonie shares adventures with Adam at Ports of Call and also in Australia against a background of historic events in Sydney. Clyde and Sebastian meet in the city and become friends. Following a devastating hurricane and a frantic dash into the outback, the threads of the story unravel, secrets are revealed and a final prospect of happiness is assured for everyone.
