Seijaku: The Japanese Secret to Finding Stillness by Miki Fujita – JAPAN
Artwork by Leanne Daphne
This is a neat and beautifully constructed little book that explains the notion of Seijaku, comprising two words that mean calm, stillness, quietness, combined with solitude and loneliness, expanding to serenity and depth.
In a cluttered and busy world, this little book of calm delves a little deeper into the concept, and the author ably expounds her thoughts on how to work with it. She likens it to a house with four doors and each door opens respectively onto environmental, physical, emotional and immersive stillness.
It is a gentle trawl through the notion of Seijaku, offering a few guidelines about working with it and assimilating the fundamentals of this particular form of wellbeing. Many beautiful prints are included, all in muted, calming colour combinations.
It may be a Japanese phenomenon but it absolutely translates to cultures around the world.
