I am, Because You Are is a love story that spans three decades of political turmoil in South Africa, from the late seventies to the present day. This story, told through the jumbled memories of the protagonist, Susana Baxter, spans three decades on a South African farm, from the late 1970’s to the present day. It explores the relationship between Susana, the daughter of Feverkraal Farm’s owner, and Khwazi Majola, the son of the Feverkraal housemaid. Although the two are born just meters and moments away from each other, the lives they inhabit are worlds apart.
