THe Khmer Rough came into being in the 1950s, becoming infamous for ruthlessness and guerrilla tactics. During the height of power they are thought to have murder 2 millioin people in the late 1970s. 1979 they were forced out of power by the Vietnamese, who invaded Cambodia, supported by China and Thailand. From the 1990s their power waned and disappeared when Pol Pot died in the late 1990s.
