The Dark Frontier

The Dark Frontier

Author(s): A B Decker

Location(s): Switzerland

Genre(s): Mystery, Thriller

Era(s): Later 1930s and early 1970s

It is 1971, and journalist Frank Goss is assigned to cover Switzerland’s referendum on women’s suffrage. When he arrives in Basel on the border with Germany, he suffers hallucinations that land him in a psychiatric clinic. Ellen is called over from London. But Frank has discharged himself and disappeared. She is shown a cryptic text he left behind, half in German, but does not believe he is her husband, not least because he calls himself Frank Eigenmann.
As the search for Frank continues, Ellen almost crosses paths with him every so often, as he becomes captivated by the mysterious Patricia, who is in thrall to a Nazi gangster called Breitner. The year is 1937. And the borderland of Switzerland is a hotbed of espionage and intrigue that sees Frank increasingly fenced in as he seeks to wrest Patricia from the hands of Breitner; they escape to Davos, but find it overrun with Nazis, then to St Moritz, where Frank forges a plan to rid them both of Breitner for good.
But is this all just a figment of Frank’s disturbed imagination? Or is he truly living it? And will Ellen ever find the truth behind his disappearance?
