A novel of several parts set mainly around EUROPE
The Weekend
Location(s): Manhattan
Genre(s): Romance
Era(s): mid 1990s
Set Lower Manhattan
The Weekend is the story of two people seeking to discover whether their feelings for each other are strong enough to cast off their current relationships and find something deeper with each other. The story is deceptively simple, as Jeff and Carolyn meet for two days together in a ritzy New York City high rise borrowed from a family friend and spend time eating, shopping, talking, and walking together through the streets of Manhattan. But below the surface, Winnikoff is exploring questions about whether intimacy is possible and how past loss affects people in the present. Also present, in the looming presence of the Twin Towers, is the sense of a future that can’t be predicted or controlled. The characters are three dimensional and believable and flawed in ways we all can recognize.
