The true Fleet Street life that Frayn describes is long gone, but this book is tremendously evocative of journalism in the 1960s. Dyson is running small columns but yearns for bigger things. Work is carried out late morning and then it’s off to the pub. Three events disrupt this routine and the comic pace mounts

This is an excellent book about London in the 60s (Swinging London?) and how I have heard the “types” in Fleet Street were. Funny and brilliantly written.
