GIVEAWAY: 3 copies of Literary London – LONDON
17th September 2023
We are delighted to offer 3 copies of Literary London by Eloise Millar and Sam Jordison – and it’s all about LONDON!
UK ONLY
Discover one of the best cities in the world through the lens of some of the most iconic writers who have ever lived.
London has long inspired and celebrated books and writing, and some of the most well-known and beloved names in English Literature have all passed through the city – William Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf and Oscar Wilde, to name a few. With Literary London as your guide, walk in their footsteps, discover their old stomping grounds and shine a new light on both the authors and their city.
Decorated with illustrations, maps, and interspersed with fact boxes about the lives of major London writers, this book delves deep into literary history to reveal a hidden world of spies, romantic poets and revolutionary outcasts, journeying via the publishing houses, cafes and parks that have played their part in inspiring them over the years.
Traversing both genres and historical periods, Literary London is a snappy and informative guide to a city steeped in history and culture, telling the stories behind the stories.

The Wallace Collection – amazing art and an amazing cafe / restaurant in the middle. Hidden gem!
London dungeons
No visit to London is complete for me without visiting The Natural History Museum.
I recommend Primrose Hill for the view
The British Museum and The Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park are must sees and London Zoo is definitely worth a visit
I love visiting the Tower of London!
We visited the Garden Museum in London and found it to be a really fascinating place to visit. We bought a packet of mixed seeds from the gift shop which had beem collected from the garden there and some plants in our garden are still growing now from those seeds!
I love the V&A Museum in London.
I have a ticket to see The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, which I plan to visit early in November.
Still want to visit The Tower of London
Sir John Soane’s Museum in Lincoln’s Inn Fields
The British Museum
Greenwich Observatory
I’m not a huge fan of big cities. So I would like to know about the quieter parts of London!
I love London, walking the hidden alley ways of Hampstead and the little hidden parks of the city. I love walking in the footsteps of history
HIghgate Cemetery
The British Museum
Daunt books, Marylebone
Hampstead Heath
Regent’s Canal walk
The Sky Garden is a must
The tower of london
The tower of london
Covent Garden at night with the street performers, watching the theatre goers and enjoying the most delicious foods. Magical with all the lights.
Have to visit the globe theatre
A piece of history worth seeing among the sky scrappers
Tower of London
I haven’t been to London since I was a child so I’m not too familiar with the place but I’d love to explore some of the medical museums. Barts Pathology Museum looks amazing but it doesn’t seem to be open to the public very often.
I love the museums, theatres and restaurants but the one thing I’ve always really wanted to do is to go up the Monument to the Great Fire of London and see the fabulous views over the city.
The Cartoon Museum has been on my list for quite a while but the Natural History Museum always takes several days by which time you’ve run out of time to go anywhere else!
Try London’s many markets for art, craft, food, drink and a dash of culture. Camden, Columbia Road and Borough all good markets to start.
British Museum
I’d probably have to spend a year there but would love to see ‘everything’ touristy and see how it’s changed since I was there in 1977
I love the Tower of London and the Globe Theatre and all the shops on Oxford Street
While I haven’t lived in London for many years, I grew up just round the corner from Greenwich Park. There are always many tourists outside the Royal Observatory, taking it in turns to stand with one foot on either side of the Prime Meridian line. The park itself is gorgeous with lots of historical features and there is the Observatory itself and the national Maritime Museum at the bottom of the hill. Plus Greenwich itself has many tourist attractions and historical buildings. Well worth a visit.
love The Coultauld Gallery
I’d like to do the ‘touristy’ things, so one of the Hop-on hop-off London Bus Tours would be at the top of my list.
The IFS Cloud Cable Car sounds great.
I’ve not been to London in such a long time, but top of my list would be the London Eye
I’d love to go to Warner Bros. Studio Tour of London
I would like to visit the Imperial War Museum, Chelsea Physic garden and visit William Morris Gallery.
The British museum, then a nice meal on brick lane before seeing a musical
I really enjoyed visiting the Temple of Mithras under the Bloomberg building. It’s free to get in and it’s just amazing to see the old history of London
I left London, where I grew up, over thirty years ago, and only go back occasionally. My top recommendation from my old stamping ground is Horniman’s Museum. It is a wonderfully eclectic place in which I spent many happy hours.

I grew up 10 minutes walk from the Horniman, in the day when they had all kinds of ‘tricky’ exhibits. And the over-stuffed walrus…..
Hard Rock Cafe
Camden Town, vibrant, buzzing and lovely people.
I’ve just been on the IFS cable cloud car, it was very quick, but also amazing. We also caught the sunset.
not a place, but a trip on the thames is a must
I have dreams of visiting all the museums in London. It’s something I have wanted to do for years, but being seriously disabled, it doesn’t look like that will become a reality anytime soon.
I’d love to visit the Natural History Museum.
I’d like to visit the Tower of London.
Regent’s canal ride to Camden and then a stroll around Camden markets, finishing off with a meal at Daphne a superb Greek restaurant
It’s a long time since I’ve been to London but would love to visit Kew Gardens x
I love visiting London, especially the British Library
Tower of London
V & A
Buckingham Palace
Always visit the wonderful Fortnum And Mason. It is a beautiful building and it is joyous to have a browse and appreciate all the fab food and beverages that they sell . Often , there are samples , which is a bonus . You can finish your visit by having afternoon tea . A british institution .
I like to wander around Covent Garden & Chinatown!
Some of the charging tourist attractions are either overpriced or not particularly good. We generally stick to the Natural History and Science Museums if we have children with us and the art galleries when we are on our own.
Recently we have taken to exploring the gardens of Central London and visiting Kew Gardens whenever possible, just to get away from the hustle and bustle!
I’d like to explore some of London’s hidden places – I once accidentally read a book about London’s hidden rivers, and I’ve seen social media posts about hidden gardens and about Roman remains tucked away in the basements of hotels and offices. I’d love to explore them
Camden Market, love the mix of people, from the sublime to the ridiculous.
This sounds a wonderful read. I’ve been to the Thames Barrier, London Eye and all the usual places, e.g. Tower of London, etc. etc. I would love to visit Buckingham Palace and the Shard.
My top recommendation would be The Wallace Collection which has one of the finest collections of 18th-century French paintings and decorative arts.
So many places to choose from but I love Brick Lane, Camden Market and not forgetting The Jack the Ripper Museum!
