Gothic, horror suspense set on a “God-Forgotten” island off SCOTLAND
GIVEAWAY: 3 copies of The Girls From Alexandria
2nd May 2021
We are delighted to be able to offer you the chance to win a copy of this fabulous novel! The Girls From Alexandria by Carol Cooper
Memories are fragile when you are seventy years old. I can’t afford to lose any more of them, not when remembering the past might help with the here and now.
Nadia needs help. Help getting out of her hospital bed. Help taking her pills. One thing she doesn’t need help with is remembering her sister. But she does need help finding her.
Alone and abandoned in a London hospital, 70-year-old Nadia is facing the rest of her life spent in a care home unless she can contact her sister Simone… who’s been missing for 50 years.
Despite being told she’s ‘confused’ and not quite understanding how wi-fi works, Nadia is determined to find Simone. So with only cryptic postcards and her own jumbled memories to go on, Nadia must race against her own fading faculties and find her sister before she herself is forgotten.
Set against the lush and glamorous backdrop of 20th century Alexandria, Carol Cooper’s third novel is equal parts contemporary mystery and historical fiction: a re-coming of age story about family, identity, and homeland.

I would like to see the Aswan Dam from the river Nile and of course, The Pyramids as we sail past.

I would love to see the pyramids and the Valley of the Kings!
i would like to revisit Cairo, such contrasts: pyramids, sphinx, Muhammad Ali Mosque and then you have virtually every roof unfinished (it’s apparently to save on tax – but looks awful) and the dead cow upside down in a ditch people were drinking from!
Would like to explore every nook and cranny and ingest all of the countries culture 🙂
I would love to visit Luxor, cruise along the Nile and look around the bazaars.
I’d love to revisit Alexandria and the library.
Egypt has always fascinated me – I would love to see the Valley of the Kings one day.

Valley of the Kings, the citadel of Qaitbay, and the Pyramids in Giza
I have seen the Pyramids and the city of Cairo but my regret is I missed out on Valley of the Kings while in Luxor as succumbed to the dreaded ‘belly’ issues!! Egypt is a fascinating place and would love to go back in time some decades to see the melting pot of Alexandria as it was.
I would like to see the Valley of the Kings, the citadel of Qaitbay, and the Pyramids in Giza. Centuries of history and fantastic architecture all in one!

If possible, I would like to visit Anwar Sadat’s grave site. I know many people in Egypt hated him. I remember seeing him assassinated on television. I could not believe it had happened. I think Anwar Sadat met with President Carter for Peace talks concerning the Middle East? Surely, he had a palace too. I would love to see it.
I remember as a child asking my Dad if he’d seen the Pyramids when he was a serviceman in Egypt, “Seen them?” he said, “I was up & down the ruddy things in that heat looking after the radio equipment at the top!”
I still think of him whenever I see a Pyramids picture.
I would love to read and win The Girl From Alexandria by Carol Cooper. I am interested in what happens and why a person disappears. In this book. I also like the fact that the one sister is seventy years old. Plus, I’m in the mood for a travel book that takes place in Egypt.
The Pyramids
It’s got to be the pyramids. My first trip out of the uk aged 23 (!) was on our honeymoon to Egypt. We arrived in darkness and the next morning opened the curtains and there they were. Absolutely stunning.
I’ve been on a diving holiday to Egypt and that was pretty special so I would love to go back and see all of their key heritage sites.
I’d love to try the food – I try cooking things like Ful Medames at home but never having tasted the real thing in its home country I’m not sure that what I’m doing is right. I once worked in a travel agency where we had a poster of St Catherine’s monastery on the wall – so it would be something to stand and look at the same view in real life, some 30 years later.

Probably the mask of Tutankhamun to get the full effect as opposed to simply looking at pictures.
