3 copies of The Inheritance by Cauvery Madhavan

It’s 1986 and 29-year-old Marlo O’Sullivan of London-Irish stock has just found out that his sister is his mother. To steady his life, he moves to Glengarriff, to a cottage he has inherited, in the stunning Beara Peninsula. When a neighbour dies unexpectedly, Marlo takes over his minibus service to Cork. There is nothing regular about the regulars on the bus – especially Sully, a non-verbal 6 year old, who goes nowhere but does the journey back and forth every day, on his own. Marlo is landed with this a strange but compassionate arrangement, fashioned to give the child’s mother respite from his care. Sully’s obsession with an imaginary friend in the ancient oak forests of Glengarriff slowly unveils its terrible secrets – a 400-hundred-year-old tragedy reveals itself.

Ah! Ireland has everything for me. The pace of living gives time to appreciate all it’s best things – the people & their attitudes to life in particular, but also the beautiful landscapes & seascapes that are always nearby. I live in England, but wanted my own bit of Ireland so much that I married an Irishman and we plan to return there permanently in the near future.

I love the people -so many friendly happy people.
As a teenager I travelled around Ireland with a group of friends doing the DoE award. Some boys tried to scare us(and did) , a very friendly farmer let us camp in his orchard. It turned a potential disaster into just about the best night there.
Love the green country and,in some places,a more relaxed way of life.

I have never been fortunate enough to visit Ireland but I have enjoyed looking at some of its beautiful landscapes through watching TV programmes. My particular interest though has to be the rich tradition s of a country immersed in folk lore. I love reading about that part of Irish culture.

Apart from the gorgeous scenery (I constantly tell friends how Donegal is THE most beautiful place I’ve ever been to, with truly outstanding white-sand beaches), it’s the people that make Ireland for me. I’ve never experienced such friendliness anywhere, with people waving at you, stopping to chat, giving directions for how to get to an unexplored cove, not for one second seeing my Asian-ness as a difference. And always with a beautiful, warm accent.
