Mystery set in LAS VEGAS
GIVEAWAY: 3 copies of The Storyteller by The Sea – DEVON
10th September 2023
We are delighted to offer 3 copies of The Storyteller by The Sea by Phyllida Shrimpton set in DEVON
UK ONLY
A heartwarming and uplifting new novel, perfect story for fans of Sally Page and Hazel Prior.
Melody spends her days scouring the Devon shore for treasures washed up by the sea or left behind in the sand by people who come to her beach. She takes them back to Spindrift, her weathered old house set in a crescent of equally weathered old houses on the edge of a little Devonshire bay. She places her treasures on her brother Milo’s bed at the end of each day and weaves beautiful and fanciful stories for him about how they came to be.
Everything Melody could ever need is right where she is, cupped by the rocks that shape her bay, whispering through the salty air and chiming from the sea.
Except all is not as it seems. The house of stories is under threat from developers, looking to modernise the strip of coast on which the old house stands. With the help of her estranged cousin, can Melody save the old house and change her world for the better?

(and the jam won!)
I have to have cream first, then jam.
Of course it’s jam first! What kind of a question is this!
Jam first!!!!
Jam first – the cream is a topping! (Sorry Devon!)
Jam first…. always!
I like to put the jam first.
Cream first, then the jam.
Jam First
Personally I go one step further, I like butter, then Raspberry Jam and then Clotted Cream on top. And of course I have to lick the spoon used for the cream
Cream first, jam on top
Personally I don’t mind either way. I don’t like clotted cream and although I love jam I would never have it on a scone. Always butter, straight from the fridge and preferably one one of hubby’s delicious home made scones.
I prefer eating them with the cream on first, jam on top
jam first and then cream
If I’m in Devon, I’d put the cream first, anywhere else, I’d put the jam on first 🙂
Jam first
Definitely jam on first
Cream with jam on top! I’m from Devon but have no idea if I’m being a traitor or not!
cream first
Jam first – the correct way!
Jam first
I think cream first because it’s clotted cream it kind of acts like butter. To be honest I also add butter as well, which apparently it so wrong, but it tastes so good so how can it be. X
Jam first, then cream on the top. I’ve always done it that way because it stays put better. The jam is a bit more of a solid base to put the cream onto.
Jam first then cream. How could it be done any other way!
Jam first, or else I feel like it would fall off the cream.
Clotted cream first, but no strong feelings
Devonshire scone has the clotted cream first and then the jam
Jam then cream it’s logical
Clotted Cream first – Any other way is just crazy!
Jam first, how are you going to spread jam on top of clotted cream if you put the cream on first?
I always do the jam first, it is easier that way
ALWAYS jam First . . .
Always cream first
Definitely jam before cream, the Cornish way!
Cream first always!
IT’S JAM FIRST
Has to be jam first
Got To Be Jam First
Jam first for me (although I may be banished from Devon!)
I prefer JAM first, then CLOTTED CREAM
Jam First, Cream Last
Jam everytime, then the clotted cream spreads a lot easier on top, the other way is just wrong!
Cut the scone in half, slather both with cream then top with jam…mmm
I say them both ways either jam or clotted cream first both taste delicious
Clotted cream on both halves and then jam on top of each half then you get to taste the jam.
Personally it is jam first because I find it easier to put cream on jam than to put jam on cream if that makes any sort of sense. Both great though!
Jam every time!
Jam first.
Clotted cream on each side of the halved (fruit) scone then lashings of jam!
My 10yo says jam first!
Jam first -the cream sits on top but if you put cream first the Jam falls all over the place. I’d still eat either way though.
Jam 1st
Jam first.
Jam first – then you get to taste the absolutely divine clotted cream first when you stuff it in your mouth!
When we lived in Derby we always put the cream on first and then the jam … but since we moved to Cornwall we thought we better put jam on first so we don’t upset the locals!! lol … Many thanks, would love this beautiful book to read.
Jam then cream.
I’m going to be very controversial but I rather like marmalade on a scone with clotted cream ! Never seen it on offer. It’s purely a DIY choice
If ordering in a tea shop it’s jam then cream for me.
These ‘discussions’ are always so amusing.
I was raised in the colonies and we always put the jam on first and then the cream. I had no idea that some people did it the other way round!
clotted cream first
clotted cream!
Well as we are talking about a Devonshire cream tea, the order would be clotted cream first and then the jam. Across the border in Cornwall they’d disagree. But it makes sense to me. Don’t we butter toast before putting the jam. So it’s reasonable to put the clotted cream first!
Cream then Jam for me
Has to be clotted cream first with jam on top
it’s jam and then the cream for me
Jam then cream for me
Clotted Cream first
Jam first for me
the jam goes on first
I like jam first, topped with oodles of cream
I generally tend to go with the Devon rule of cream first, then jam.
It’s not that I have any real preference taste wise, but simply that if you put the jam on first, then the cream slides around all over the top and you can’t spread it.
A good clotted cream base spread over the scone, then means that you can put on a good old dollop of jam and tuck in!

Sounds like an excellent top tip. Rather fancying a scone this very moment!!
Jam first
Jam then cream for me
Jam then cream as it’s how my mum always does it so I followed suit.
Jam first, always.
Jam first for me
Have always put jam on first then cream if it’s whipped cream but clotted cream is so thick it is like butter so I suppose it does make sense to put jam on after then x
Jam first, easier to put the cream on.
Clotted cream first, then jam on the top!
My husband is a Cornishman so I always annoy him by cutting my scone in half and putting jam first on one half and cream first on the other. But on the quiet, I’d prefer it with just the cream, I’m not a big jam fan
I would say jam first but then I don’t like cream so I’m not the best person to ask!
Jam first, though I’m not fussy!
I love scones but I don’t like jam or clotted cream so I just have butter on mine! With regards to whether the jam or the clotted cream should go on first, I would probably say the jam but as I don’t have either on my scones, I don’t feel qualified to comment! I’m looking forward to reading other people’s responses.
Jam first!
Jam first then you can pile more clotted cream on top x
i’m definitely a cream first then jam, no idea why
I am half Cornish but lived in Devon for 5 years, so am a bit conflicted! But the sensible way for me is jam first, then cream!
This is very topical, as I have just had a fruit scone with apricot jam and Rodda’s Cornish clotted cream and yes, the jam went on first! And yes, it was delicious!!
Cream first!!
