I’ve just finished The Dry by Jane Harper which is great for atmosphere. Now on Josephine Tey’s The Singing Sands, mainly set in the Highlands. It’s good and I like her writing style but a bit slow. I enjoyed The Daughter of Time more.

The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne. It’s set in several places – Ireland, Amsterdam and New York, but it only has a real sense of place in Ireland, where the contrast between rural and urban life, and how each changes over the years, plays a major part in the story.

I am reading ‘Last Dog on the Hill’, by Steve Dono. Set in California, Colorado & Seattle, it is the story of how Steve adopts a wild puppy, a Doberman/German Shepherd cross & in turn, how the puppy, Lou, changes Steve’s life by influencing Steve to retrain as a dog trainer, working with dogs whose behaviour is so extreme that they face being put down if they can’t be reformed!
Although not huge on location there are some nice descriptions of the hills in California & the mountains of Colorado!
A lovely read if you are into dogs!
