The Book of COVENTRY (A City In Short Fiction)
GIVEAWAY – be a pre-publication reader of “The Boy At The Door” set in Norway!
3rd June 2018
“The Boy at the Door” set in Norway, and written by Alex Dahl, is a hot pick for Summer 2018. And you can be in with a chance of reading it in hardback, a month before copies hit the shelves in July!
Cecilia Wilborg has the perfect life… a handsome husband, two beautiful daughters and a large house in the picture-postcard town of Sandefjord (Norway). Then Tobias arrives. He’s a small, friendless eight-year-old boy. But he threatens to bring Cecilia’s world crashing down.
The author spent a year living in Sandefjord with her two children. It is a lovely idyllic and peaceful little town, but her novelist’s mind immediately imagined less pleasant stories beneath the perfect surface!
What do you have to do to be in with a chance of winning this copy (plus a Books Are My Bag tote bag, designed by Tracey Emin)?
Just leave a comment below, anything relating to Norway… good books you have read which are set there. Have you been? Any top tips you would like to share? If you haven’t been, what would you like to see?
Do this by midnight, 16th June 2018 and the first name out of the hat on the 17th will win. International competition.

What is the best place to visit ??
I’ve heard the scenery on the Oslo to Bergen train is stunning. Would like to make that journey one day.
I would love to see the fjords. Blame Slartibartfast.
Fjord horses! The best ponies in the world 🙂
a beautiful country ,the Fjords and waterfalls are spectacular ,our last visit was to the The Lofoten Islands where we were treated to the most spectacular views of the northen lights .such beauty ,I don’t know why most of the books I have read from here are so dark and filled with violence
Ice hotels, reindeer and Father Christmas
I’ve read quite a bit of Scandi crime although I don’t know whether any of it was specific to Norway. I find it enjoyable but sometimes disturbingly dark. I’ve never visited the country but my daughter and her family go regularly and say the scenery is wonderful.
I would love to visit Norway someday! Thanks for the chance
I am pretty appallingly unaware about Norway. I’ve never been, and the only book I’ve read even partially set there was a mystery by Katherine Hall Page (The Body in the Fjord). Obviously it’s time I read a book with a Norwegian setting.
I am Karl Ove Knausgård’s fan, love his My Struggle books. Never been to Scandinavia. Would love to visit it one day.
I have a Norwegian descendants that have the best recipes! I love the food. Aurora Borellis.
Huge fan of all things Scandinavian Noir!! Thanks for the chance.
I want to visit norway to see the northern lights
Norway is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It’s home to more natural wonders than we can count and it has stunning cities, fascinating history and really happy people.
Norway’s not cheap. But it’s worth it. Here are 25 reasons why.
It’s actually one of the happiest places on Earth.
Plan to visit Norway this summer. Hope to see beaches, fjords, forests, and aurora borealis.

Love the idea of Norway – have always wanted to visit Svalbard, where there is a research station manned by physicists from my work Department – also since I read Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’.
i love all the harry hole novels, which are set in Norway, I have always wanted to visit there and especially see the northern lights!
I’m keen to travel to Norway , I love all the Scandi noir novels and films
Norway is definitely on my travel bucket list. The rest of my family visited a few years ago and I was so jealous! I would especially love to see the fjords.
I’d love to visit Norway, especially the giant Elk statue
Had to cancel a Norway trip because of work commotments? Trying to reschedule for 2019.
I have never been but would love to go!
We’ve been to Oslo on a short ferry cruise and loved it. Visiting the fjords and the north of Norway is on our bucket list. Love scandy literature and movies/tv!

My husband has just found out that his grandmother’s father, a sail maker, came over to Scotland from Norway. This has got us planning a genealogy trip next year and we are even learning some Norwegian on Duolingo! Would love to read this book in this context. Big fan of the bag too!
I have always wanted to go to Norway to see the northern lights and fjords!
Norway is on my to be visited list, would really love to see the fjords. Definitely can’t go wrong with a bit of Jo Nesbo.
I would love to see Norway especially the Fjords.
Such a beautiful country. A great way to see it is on a fjord cruise. I love Norway
I really like Jo Nesbo books
Love Norway. Fabulous way to see it is a cruise up the fjords. It’s such a beautiful country
I’ve never visited. I do like a spot of Jo Nesbo and Scandi Drama (thinking The Bridge and The Killing). The literature based in that part of the world always seems quite dark
Norway is a beautiful place I’ve always wanted to visit!
Would love to go and travel more but with a disabled partner to care for it is hard and a full time mother but it does sound lovely
I would love to visit Norway! I have seen the country through pictures only and it is breathtaking!!!
I’ve never been to Norway, but I would love to explore the Oslo Viking ship museum 🙂 this book sounds great and the bag (books are my bag) is one I’m hoping to get in October, I missed out last year, so winning this prize would be fab!
I have just found out I have Norwegian ancestry! I just have to visit asap.
I would absolutely love to visit Norway, who wouldn’t? I am also a fan of Jo Nesbo books.
Fingers crossed, liked and shared the post
Been sailing down the fjords of Norway – it really is beautiful. Unfortunately out in the open sea was not so good for me – I confess I am not a good sailor. The people of Norway are wonderful but it is very expensive shopping there.
Would love to visit Norway, looks stunning. Love jo nesbo too!
I’d love to go to Norway. I’ve watched a few shows set in Norway and have read a couple books set there, too. Love the broodiness and dark undertones of the country.
Jo Nesbø is one of my fave authors x
I haven’t personally been to Norway, but my parents are just back from a Fjords cruise and they would recommend seeing the true wonder and splendor of the fjords. The size of the mountains around you is magnificent. One of their favourite places to explore was Flåm.
I haven’t (yet!) been to Scandinavia but would love to.
I have visited Norway vicariously via the novels of Fredrik Backman, which I absolutely love!
I’ve read ‘A Man Called Ove’ (pronounced Oove, as in Hoover, apparently!), ‘My Grandmother Sends her Regards and Apologises’ & ‘Britt-Marie Was Here’ & enjoyed the dry humour & poignancy of each one.
Backman has another novel just out & one more coming in October, I believe, so more to look forward to!
One of these days I’ll get there & in the meantime I’ll content myself with reading novels set there!
I’m a big fan of the Jo Nesbo books and would love to visit Norway one day.
I have never been to Norway, but seriously, I’d travel anywhere, if given the chance! Travelling brings so much to our lives that everyday experience in our own hometown cannot. Learning about and gaining an appreciation for cultures and traditions other than my own bring people together, enrich lives, and promote acceptance and peace. If I had one wish, it would be for everyone in our world to travel outside of their own country at least once in their lifetime. It wouldn’t even matter to me which country they chose because in every part of our world there’s always somthing to learn, explore, and discover. 🙂 I think if more people travelled, our world would be a happier place where people were more accepting of differences. 🙂
Would love to visit Norway, I find it a most fascinating country. Have read more NF about the troubles of Norway during WWII. Enjoy Scandinavian fiction, and would love to be lucky enough to win this.
A book I read in school that was set in Norway was The Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. I remember the impact it had on me while we discussed the book.
I never visited Norway. But I would like to see the many fjords.
