I remember the fog touching the stones of Campo San Stefano and the stillness of the morning
I remember the fog touching the stones of Campo San Stefano and the stillness of the morning.
Some fifty-something years ago I returned to England with my Mum & Dad following my Dad’s RAF posting in Cyprus. He’d bought a car – a Hillman shooting-brake – and wanted to bring it home, so we left on the ferry and drove across Europe. After leaving Famagusta my first sight of land was arriving at the port of Venice, another step in an amazing childhood adventure which I’ll never forget.
Strange to find this today. My husband and I were there 21 years ago on our honeymoon. Yesterday was our anniversary. A magical place. We visited again 4 years ago with our two sons, and managed to see a completely empty St Marks Square as it poured down with rain. Wonderful!
Looking forward to visiting Venice again at the end of June to explore more of the hidden treasures that the city contains. It’s a great place to wander around.
Would love to visit this wonderful place.
Would love to visit and stay for a few nights to properly visit all the hidden treasures.
A place that I have always wanted to visit and explore
Love Venice and reading about this special place, too. It’s spooky in places late at night which would add to the drama when reading about it…
My first ever trip abroad without my parents was to Venice with a friend after we finished uni. Loved St Marks square but we were both petrified of the pigeons!
The last time I visited Venice was over 50 years ago and I saw my parents hold hands in a gondola. They weren’t demonstrative ever, so I guess romantic, enchanting Venice brought out that side for them. I was only 11 and I’ve never forgotten the fantasy of this city. I need to go again – it won’t be difficult as I live in Tuscany for six months each summer. U bel giorno…
My favourite place in the world it’s pure magic. We’ve had day trips and once stayed for 3 nights. So love reading books about Venice – to remind me of happy memories!
Was due to go there last week but too ill to travel. On the mend now. I would love the words to take me there.
Last went to Venice 30 years ago on my first holiday with my boyfriend ( now my husband of 27 years). We were staying in Yugoslavia and had a coach trip to Venice. Still remember the square and a little bridge that we stood on watching the gondolas go under us, so narrow but so beautiful, we kissed on that bridge…..
Never got to Venice although we were on our way there. My young daughter & I were on holiday in Rimini when by handbag was snatched, it contained my purse, travellers cheques, camera etc. ……. & those tickets to Venice. We spent the morning at the police station instead. Oh, how I’d love to read this Venetian murder mystery!
I would love to visit Venice and have a ride along the gorgeous canels in gondola
Ahhh Venice, a lifetime memory while inter-railing round Europe in my early 20’s
I’d love to visit Venice. My daughter went last September and fell in love with its beauty!
I have never visited but I will one day. I will be like Katherine Hepburn in Summertime. Only, hopefully, less heartbroken….

My husband and I visited Venice a couple of yrs ago and fell in love with the city.
I think it was 1975 when I visited Venice on a very hot August day when the city was very crowded so probably not the best time of year to go! Perhaps I need to go back with this book!
I still recall my first trip and as a travel advisor I love booking people there. I am working on a trip now and I am booking the people into the pensione I stayed at.
It is on my bucket list and planning to visit in the autumn
I visited for the 1st time when I was 25, and it was the most magical place I’d ever visited. I’m long overdue another visit , this time with my family.
First visited Venice in 1983 and excited to be revisiting next month.
I’ve always been fascinated by Venice, and its stunning architecture. I very nearly got to go on a school trip there many years ago, but sadly it got cancelled. I’d love to go there one day, and spend a week or two exploring.
I’ve been to Venice for a day trip, whilst holidaying in Italy. It was scorching hot, so we wandering around and ate ice-creams, and then went for a ride in a Gondola where it was a little cooler, thankfully! I’d love to go back again.
It would be nice to read Vengeance in Venice, as I could picture a lot of places mentioned. I always enjoy that in books. 😉
ah Venice, yet another place on my bucket list x
I will love to visit Venice. Will love to enjoy the scenery, the food and improve my Italian.
Venice was a lovely place for a short visit.
Would love to visit Venice one day & be poled along the canals in a gondola…better start saving!

Looking forward to visiting Venice in May especially as my first (and last) visit was in 1983. I think Venice might have aged better than me
