Berlin GIVEAWAY! – a copy of ‘In the Full Light of the Sun’, and an Ampelmännchen tote bag
14th April 2019
WIN a copy of In the Full Light of the Sun by Clare Clark, an excellent and thought-provoking novel (based on a true story) set in 1930s Weimar Berlin – together with an iconic Ampelmännchen tote bag.
Do you know the story of Berlin’s Ampelmännchen?
.…From traffic light to iconic brand…. the little Ampelmännchen (literally meaning little traffic light man) is the symbol shown on pedestrian signals in Germany. Prior to German Unification in November 1989, the two German states had different forms. The East German figures became iconic (as opposed to their rather dull former West German counterparts) and now enjoy the privileged status of being one of the few features of the Communist East to have survived. Ampelmännchen shops in Berlin are ubiquitous and you can even buy Gummibärs, sink plugs or aprons with single or dual motifs….
