Aziz (from Algeria) jumps off a ship and swims into Boston Harbour, not knwoing the language and in poor condition. He cannot connect with the new world as everything right down to language is very alien. He is reunited with friends and later his brother, and there is some sense that there may be a terrorist plot in planning: flashbacks to life in Algeria are very poignant and informative and add to the overall dissociation that Aziz experiences.
