A marvellously written book which looks at anglo-Indian relations, through the stories of two women. Set in colonial India of the 1920s and the independent India of the seventies, when the lure of India for disenfranchised youth was at its height. Olivia in the 20s who runs off with the Nawab, and is divorced by Douglas, her husband. The second voice is the wife of one of Douglas’ descendants, who is fascinated by Olivia’s story and travels to India in her steps. Abeguilling story of two women from different generations.
