The Pallampur Predicament

The Pallampur Predicament

Author(s): Brian Stoddart

Location(s): Chennai (Madras)

Genre(s): Crime, Fiction

Era(s): 1920s India

The murder of a local rajah sees Superintendent Chris Le Fanu and his assistant, Muhammad Habubullah encounter local intrigue as well as British secret agents as they attempt to find the culprits.
As they do so, they find the city of Madras changing socially as well as politically, and Le Fanu again finds himself conflicted: he is a British civil service but sympathises with Indian sentiment that seeks more control over its own affairs.
Le Fanu’s post-battle problems from World War One are compounded by the complications of his mixed-race relationship with Roisin McPhedren, an Anglo-Indian.
