A dark thriller set mainly in GLASGOW
Crime puzzle set in NORTH YORKSHIRE
17th November 2025
Miss Winter in the Library with a Knife by Martin Edwards, crime puzzle set in North Yorkshire.
“The Midwinter Trust requires the pleas of your companies our guest at a unique all-expenses-paid Christmas Break”. Enter the REMOTE PLAYERS. Us! “Readers” or Reviewers” will be following the story as external observers, identifying the clues and spotting treachery along the way. The aim is to collate as many clues in the Cluefinder as possible. If you only spot less than 10 clues you are advised to concentrate on enjoying your reading; if you spot more than 40, then you might find your very own invitation to Midwinter winging its way in your direction… You have been warned!
This is the kind of book that will keep readers entertained over the Christmas period and is ideal those who like a game of Cluedo (the clue is in the title!). It is probably the kind of book for which the reader needs a physical copy, ideally paper because there is some flipping back and forth required. And pen and paper can prove useful to us Remote Players.
Six people with links to the world of crime writing have been invited to play a game this Christmas by the Midwinter Trust, with an eye-boggling reward for the winner. The snow comes down, the internet goes off and they are stranded in this tiny hamlet in North Yorkshire. Staff from the Trust keep an eagle eye on proceedings. But will everyone play fair? With one of the clues being an invitation to Kristy Winkelman’s Christmas Divorce Party, perhaps a nod to Celebrity Traitors is intended? And what to make of the “Secret Santa naming Code”?
It is a fun and challenging experience but given the number of clues collected, I probably won’t be giving up the day job any time soon!
