DESIBLITZ LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2022 PROGRAMME REVEALED

DESIBLITZ LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2022 PROGRAMME REVEALED: UK’S LEADING SOUTH ASIAN LITERATURE FESTIVAL

 12th – 25th NOVEMBER 2022

The DESIblitz Literature Festival, taking place in Birmingham from 12th – 25th November 2022, is the UK’s only book festival dedicated to celebrating the work of the UK’s leading British South Asian literary talent with a mandate to encourage more young British South Asians to become published authors or work in the publishing industry.

DESIBLITZ LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2022 PROGRAMME REVEALED

The fun and dynamic festival brings together a range of critically acclaimed writers from the British South Asian diaspora for workshops, performances, and panel discussions, including Betty Trask Prize and Desmond Elliott Prize-winning novelist Anjali Joseph, children’s books author Bali Rai and journalist and crime author Saima Mir. This year festival goers can attend events such as An Introduction to Writing Comics, Overcoming Challenges to Get Published, We Love Books Too! Author Recommendations.

There is still a huge lack of diversity in the UK publishing industry with just 6% from a South Asian background, which led to Indi Deol founding the DESIblitz Literature Festival with the aim of engaging young British South Asians into the world of literature and creative writing since “typically South Asian parents do not push their kids into Arts & Humanities.” He wanted to open doors for British South Asian writers to be recognised within their own communities and beyond, and to create the opportunity for young British South Asians to see and hear stories of struggles, challenges, and success from established British South Asian authors, as a way to encourage them to consider writing or publishing as a career choice.

The festival this year will have a mix of in-person events at The Mac and digital sessions. To encourage student attendance and public engagement during these economically challenging times, this diverse festival featuring a unique series of events will be completely free to attend, which can be accessed here.
