GIVEAWAY! – 3 copies of Red Sky over Hawaii (U.S. entries only)

14th June 2020

We are delighted to be able to give away to our American visitors 3 copies of Red Sky over Hawaii by Sara Ackerman, set in beautiful Hawaii.

 Red Sky over Hawaii

RED SKY OVER HAWAII BY SARA ACKERMAN

Inspired by real places and events of WWII, Red Sky Over Hawaii immerses the reader in a time of American history full of suspicion and peril in this lush and poignant tale about the indisputable power of doing the right thing against all odds.

The attack on Pearl Harbor changes everything for Lana Hitchcock. Arriving home on the Big Island too late to reconcile with her estranged father, she is left alone to untangle the clues of his legacy, which lead to a secret property tucked away in the remote rain forest of Kilauea volcano. When the government starts taking away her neighbors as suspected sympathizers, Lana shelters two young German girls, a Japanese fisherman and his son. As tensions escalate, they are forced into hiding—only to discover the hideaway house is not what they expected.

When a detainment camp is established nearby, Lana struggles to keep the secrets of those in her care. Trust could have dangerous consequences. As their lives weave together, Lana begins to understand the true meaning of family and how the bonds of love carry us through the worst times.

I was in Hawaii for the first time last May. I happen to be reading Sara’s previous book, The Lieutenant’s Nurse while I was there! It was such a special experience reading a book on location and on vacation.

We love visitors to Hawai’i but please not now. We are trying to straighten the COVID curve and incoming visitors may well add to it strengthening. There is a 14 day quarantine required of incoming passengers. This has just been extended to July 31. Be well and keep planning for a wonderful visit when it’s more appropriate.

I have been to Hawaii 3 times and absolutely love the islands. My least favorite, because it is more touristy is Oahu, although you have to go once to see Diamond Head and the Polynesian Cultural Center. I loved the Big Island and the Volcano National Park. Watching the lava flow into the ocean was so amazing. Maui is probably my favorite with the road to Hana and Haleakala. Then there is the raw beauty of Kauai. You can’t go wrong with a visit to any of the islands.

I went to Hawaii once, Maui, and it was beautiful. The drive to Hana is one of the most amazing.

I went to Oahu many years ago. I remember Waikiki Beach was beautiful. Pearl Harbor was such an emotional visit. I really enjoyed the Polynesian Cultural Center.

I’ve never been to Hawaii. I’d love to go, to see Manoa Falls, hike on a volcano, and see a black sand beach.
