Novel set mainly in ABRUZZO
Love the Netflix series “The Crown”? You’ll love our LONDON giveaway!
29th September 2019
We are giving away a copy of “The Gown” by Jennifer Robson – “Perfect for fans of The Crown” – set in 1947/2016 London and Toronto (plus a perfect London-themed tea towel)…
London, 1947: Besieged by a harsh winter, burdened by shortages and rationing, the people of post-war Britain are suffering despite their nation’s recent victory. For Ann Hughes and Miriam Dassin, embroiderers at the famed Mayfair fashion house of Norman Hartnell, a glimmer of brightness comes in the form of their unlikely friendship and being chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime honour: taking part in the creation of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding gown.
Toronto, 2016: Heather Mackenzie seeks to unravel the mystery of a legacy from her late grandmother. How did her beloved nan, who never spoke of her old life in Britain, come to possess the priceless embroideries that so closely resemble the motifs on the stunning gown worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her wedding almost seventy years before? And what was her nan’s connection to the celebrated textile artist and Holocaust survivor Miriam Dassin?
With The Gown, Jennifer Robson takes us inside the workrooms where one of the most famous wedding gowns in history was created to tell a story of women whose lives are woven together by the pain of survival, the bonds of friendship, and the redemptive power of love.

Definitely! It’s one of my favourite series!
I’m really looking forward to The Crown, as I love Olivia Coleman. I’m also looking forward to Dublin Murders, which is based on the detective novels by Tana French. I love her books and am hoping the TV series will be as gripping.

I can’t wait for the crown either! I’m sure Olivia Coleman will be amazing in it. Dublin Murders is one to put on the list too! Thanks Helena!
I’m really looking forward to Catherine the Great.
World on Fire, is perfect for Sunday evening tv
World on Fire. The trailers look great, and it seems a classic war drama.
I am looking forward to the medieval whodunit “The Name Of The Rose” which starts soon.

Looks really good! Anything with Helen Hunt and Sean Bean in it!
Hello, I am enjoying watching Celebrity Masterchef at the moment but it always makes me feel hungry!
I’m just getting into the crown as I prefer reading.
I really can’t wait to see Olivia Coleman in The Crown.
I am looking forward to watching The Crown – such a grand and lavish era – Olivia Coleman is my absolute favourite actress ever since I was a child!
Looking forward to the latest series of The Crown.
I don’t really watch TV, it takes up too much reading time.
I am not sure what’s coming, but I’d love something like Happy Valley. I’ve watched most of the ones available here in the U.S. like it.
World on Fire looks interesting!
World on Fire sounds good – have recorded the first episode tonight and hope to watch it tomorrow.
I’m hoping ‘Call the Midwife’ will be back soon!
World on Fire because I am fascinated by the Blitz era and how it affected the lives of ordinary people. I also think Lesley Manville is a superb actress. AND I am also keeping my fingers crossed that the fabulous Last Tango in Halifax upcoming new series is as good as the previous ones.
World on Fire mainly because it covers characters in Poland as well. Some brilliant actors in it. Can’t wait!
Catherine the great
Looks good!
The crown!
I am looking forward to my winter viewing of The Crown.
World on Fire should be good Sunday night viewing!
I’m afraid I’m a superhero freak, so I’m looking forward to Supergirl, Arrow and Flash returning soon!
I like the look of World on Fire and will be watching the first episode tonight x
